I still find myself thinking about Uganda. Living in Mukono for 4 months will always leave an imprint upon my heart. The experience was unlike any other time in my life. I remember first considering study abroad bc a friend mentioned that was one regret he had after he graduated.... I took that and told myself I had to do it. Why I chose Uganda... all I knew at the time was that I wanted to experience another culture that was the farthest from western culture. During debrief before we traveled back to the states we were challenged with questions about what we will bring back with us and how will we live differently. I am still answering those questions even though it has been almost six years. Recently, becoming a mom has had me thinking about the different influences that have had an impact on how I approach parenting. Right now I keep going back to the influences on why I chose to do certain things as a new mom.
Well... I can say that babywearing Hannah was highly influenced by the Ugandan women I met and lived with. This was how babies would be carried around unless their siblings were holding and watching the younger ones. It is such a beautiful and natural sight to see. I had to post this picture of this african woman because it is stunning and captures the essence of every mother. It was during my pregnancy that my Bradley instructor, Amber, who expanded my view on the variety of baby carriers to chose from today. I love to babywear Hannah; and I am thankful to my friends, family, Bradley instructor, and the mothers in Uganda who have enriched my experience of being a new mom through babywearing.
